The First Flood Research Strategy for the UK (June 2010)

Many of the largest programmes of flooding research are coming close to finishing so Living With Environmental Change (LWEC)  partners see an urgent need to take forward a multi-institutional flood research strategy which will look at short, medium and long term needs for useable information, and cost-effective response options.

For more information about the project, please  see the attached flyer and visit http://www.lwec.org.uk/strategic-activities/uk-first-flood-research-strategy

Parnassus: Weather and flooding threats to historic buildings (June 2010)

The Universities of Bath, Brisol and Southampton have begun a three-year interdisciplinary research project to examine weather and flooding threats to historic buildings under current and possible future climates. CIRIA develops guidance on retrofitting surface water management (Jan 2010)

CIRIA is developing guidance on retrofitting surface water management measures. These measures are set to deal with the challenges faced by flood risk management and water quality issues, and the provision of amenity in the built environment, thereby helping to build better places to live.  The project will significantly benefit from knowledge and experience of anyone working in this changing and developing field, whatever their background.

CIRIA are seeking feedback on the guidance: please go to the CIRIA website for more information. The consultation closes on 5 March 2010.

Aberdeenshire Council and Macauley Institute: Aquarius (March 2009)

Aberdeenshire Council and the Macauley Institue started the Aquarius project in March 2009 that will work with farmers and land managers to look at ways in which water quantity might be best managed under current and future climate change.  The focus of the project is the Tarland Basin and the project will support the development of the Tarland Flood Prevention Scheme.  For more information, please visit http://www.theriverdee.org/aquarius.asp
